Overview (Illustration, Flyer)
The Year End Show (YES) is an event hosted by the Design & Digital Media (D&DM) department of Sacramento City College. It is an event for showcasing student work throughout the school year.
I designed a pizza mascot character, and made variations of the character for the department. I also created the 3D model of trophies for each class.

Initial Designs
For the design I simplified the amount of detail for the character, and removed the sunglasses to give the character a more friendly look.

- The amount of pepperoni was reduced to 2, and I placed them asymmetrically to give the character visual interest.
- The pizza crust was turned into hairstyles, based on various pizza crusts found on the internet.
- The hands and feet became disconnected from the body to circumvent the issue placing arms and legs on a thin slice of pizza.
Revised Design
The initial version of the pizza character was chosen by the department. I used Illustrator to create the render of the character.

- The character’s hair was changed to a sharper shape for a more active feel.
- The department liked the sketchiness of the initial drafts. So to preserve some of the spirit of the sketch I used varying line weights on the character, and chose not to have completely closed line art.
- The character had different hand placement compared to the original to fit the design of the save the date card.
Design Variations
Flyer
The character was used in the flyer that advertised the event. I decided to overlap the elements on the page with the character. This overlap and interaction allows for a sense of depth and space for the character to exist in, even when no actual environment was drawn.

Class Categories
I also created variations of the character to represent the five categories of classes that the design department offers. These illustrations were placed on a pizza box for each course, along with a description for each course that had work to show.

The final concepts were chosen by the department, and I maintained the hand-drawn feel of the original illustrations of the character.
