Design Brief

Client

Spa Lale is a spa at Westin Hotel, which also comes with selling luxury items. Its goal is to give customers a spa in a luxury hotel, with products aimed at people in the Sacramento region. Services include spa, massage and facial, snacks and tea, meditation room, a jacuzzi, and access to the hotel pool. They need people to go to the hotel to use their services. They are active on social media, but their site is neglected.

Audience

Their primary audience is women from the Sacramento region, around age 25-45. They most likely want the experience of a getaway without having to leave the Sacramento region, or maybe they just want a luxurious and relaxing experience. They would most likely have regular exposure to the internet, and can use the internet in a decent capacity. They need to go to the site and make appointments at the spa, and link to the hotel if necessary.

Problems

The website spalale.com has a multitude of issues with UX Design. Asides from some information architecture issues, the website’s text needs more weight to be readable, and places that could lead into their services page don’t link to anything. In order to get to the services page you have to scroll all the way up, and hit the “services” option underneath a dropdown named “menu”. This makes the experience of finding services more difficult than necessary. Their blog pages also have alignment issues, which decrease the impact of their messages. Their gift certificate page has the exact same image for the different dollar amount certs, and combined with the readability issues this can have people getting the wrong amount certificate.

Goals

Spa Lale’s theme has potential, but the lack of integration of the theme with the UX of the website makes this site difficult to navigate and read. The goal of the redesign is to create a smoother flow across the website to their services page, and to make the site more readable while keeping the essence of their theme. The site also could benefit from linking to/from the main hotel that the spa is located in.

Steps

IA Restructuring – re-organize the sitemap so that the experience of the user going to the services page and hotel page is smooth. Connecting their site’s content with their social media would also benefit them immensely.
Typography and UI redesign – make the UI more readable and the overall site more reflective of the theme they are going for.
